Hello everyone! wherever you are I need your brains to work for me a bit. So that I can really crack this university of Oslo and give a lot of people a taste of ................. ( fill in the blank)

I would just paste here what Raghvan commented on my previous post

Jai Guru Dev Rashmin ! When we tried to organize intro talks at my univ in US, we were" greeted with empty rooms for weeks on end. Then we started organizing free yoga/meditation sessions. These "buzzwords" seemed to work really well and we got many students by word of mouth . We would do some yoga, followed by the "Gift Of Silence" meditation after which the students would be really ready to hear about the course.
Thank you Raghav.

From all of you I need a name for the one hour session I will do here. Here Yoga is not yet such a "in thing" as in the US may be. (not too sure). But I want a nice cool name that will make them want to come to get refreshed and rejuvenated... like having a sip of energy..or something on those lines.

Send your suggestions by 12:00 in the afternoon and ask a lot more of our volunteers and teachers also to find a name for this.

I am waiting....

Love
Rashmin

    JGD Rashmin..
Like Raghavan said, 'Free' is definitely a buzz word. You could call it "Free Stress management seminar". That's what I call it in my corporate 'Breathing and meditation sessions'. Kind of attracts people who need it and does not put them away with terms like yoga and meditation that seems surreal to a lot of people.

    dear rashmin .
Jai Guru Dev ! Glad you found that suggestion helpful. A few more things we found useful (please tailor as per Oslo's culture / univ guidelines) :

    1. Make this periodical (once/twice a week) - folks who came back week after week usually stayed back to talk about the course. Also people see that we are committed to bringing them something useful periodically and are not only there to push our cause.
    2. Don't show AOL promotional videos - this bombed for us as people thought we were advertising.
    3. Respect the 1 hour time. Graduate students are hard pressed for time.
    4. Maintain an email list that will grow from event to event and let them know about the next event . Encourage students to fwd the email and invite their friends the next time. This really worked wonders.

Dinesh Bhaiyya had the following suggestion when he came there :

    1. Slowly ask students to write to the student bodies universities etc. asking them to let folks know that they liked what we are doing. This builds a good image for us and may lead to the univ allowing a course / meetings with officials.

    2. Participate in events that the student clubs organize. When they see that we are committed to what they are doing, they get interested in what we are doing . (DID NOY have a chance to implement this yet due to time issues, but may work for you) .

Regarding names, you maybe right about US Vs Oslo though I would think Yoga-Meditation are universally known.
Perhaps something that resonates with student issues w/o stressing too much on the negative word "stress" such as

"Sleep-Study-Rejoice" or something like that where you could add in some fun YES+ process .

    All the Best ,

    Jai Guru Dev.

Since Oslo was the host city for the 1952 Winter Olympics, ski jumping is popular there, I think!

You can organize a contest or something... asking people to come to you, attend the workshop, and after the meditation session, TRY to DEFINE the experience.. the winner will get......(fill in with whatever excites the youth there)..

and after the meditation, you should tell them this story that you have a blog, and you have asked your friends to fill the blank for you, as you cant seem to put into words how ________ this thing is! (I myself am feeling short of words to say what i want to say..lol).. and that this thing is so_____ and yet so_____ that you just cant seem to put it into words!

if things go well, there could very well be a buzz in the campus about a seminar/workshop which challenges people to describe the experience.. and then lots of people hear about this, i think many more will come.. after that is pure magic :)

all the best.. waiting to hear from you how things are going.
